She Can Hear Ya Now!

hearingaids

Thursday Momma finally got the hearing aides that we have been working with the Georgia Lighthouse Foundation to get for her. It has made a world of differance in her life already. Our momma has suffered with hearing loss since her days working at JP Stevens in Milledgeville Georgia back when I was a youngin!

Thursday I took the kids over to her house so she could for the first time hear Tai speak. Tai is a quiet young man and he has never really bought into the whole “speak up so grandma can hear ya”. So thursday I took him over and he told her about his day at school, she was finally able to understand each and every word he spoke.

It is going to take some time for Momma to get used to hearing each and every sound that has been lost to her for years, but I know she is starting to feel alot better about her self and this is only the beginning!

One Year Later

Daddy has been dead for a year now. I am not one to sit around and mourn the lost of someone, it really does no body any good. I rather remember the good things about a person and what they added to my life. Although Daddy is gone, he lives on, in the stories I tell my kids about life when I was growing up, the elephant ear bulbs growing in my yard now that grew in his for 20 years, the cast iron skillet I take out to prepare a meal with at times that once belong to Grannie Crawford and the hat he always wore that now runs around our house on the head of Zaynah while she sings “Going on a safari, Going on a safari!”

Momma and Lynn were the two that feel his lost the greatest. They were the two that helped to take care of him In the past year, Momma has finally realized she could not go on working in her present health condition (something that worried Daddy tremendously), stopped trying to do it all herself and moved in with my family. Lynn has just about reached her goal of earning her GED and becoming employed, earning a lot of self confidence as well as self esteem along the way.

Both Lynn and Momma have became more confidant and eager to take on new challenges in life, whether it be surfing the ‘net or standing up for what they believe in. I am proud of both of them and I know Daddy would be as well.

Daddy has been gone a year, the best way I know to honor his memory is to honor, cherish, and respect that what meant the most to him.

Welcome her to the 21st Century!

Today I gave Momma a crash course on the internet, about time huh? Momma was a quick study, although I am sure it was overwhelming for someone who has never touched a computer before.

If you want to keep in contact with someone I am sure in a few weeks will be a nethead, Momma’s email address is bcrawford0126@yahoo.com and her myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/proudgamomof4

Happy Mothers day

This is actually I post I wrote last year for my mother, I thought I would repost it today in honor of mothers day. This past year My Momma has had to come to terms with quite a lot of things, the lost of her husband of 37 years and the end of her life as a working woman. I know these things can not be easy for her to come to terms with. In January she came to live with us until she can get her disablity started with Social Security. I have thoughly enjoyed her being here, even if she has stolen my boxer bulldog, but she is my momma so I will let that slide. I know Zaynah espically has enjoyed her being here, she spends a lot of time in Grandma’s room playing and getting read to.

To be honest it has been kinda hard to see a woman you never seen sick or miss a work become no so independent. Growing up Momma was never sick, and if she was really sick and had to be in the bed that was something to worry about. Now she has James and I constantly reminding her she doesn’t need to drink so many soda’s because of her diabetes and “Aren’t you suppose to be on a special diet?” She is a trooper though and never gets mad at us for reminding her!
Last Year’s Post

I just wanted to drop a post to wish all the mothers a Happy Mothers day. I also wanted to wish my own mother a Happy Mothers day, although she is going to have to work that day, and it probably won’t be that much of a special day for her.

I do think I have the best mom there is, and I hope to live up to the standard she has set. My mom has not had a easy time of it since I have known her. The majority of my growing up years she worked two jobs to keep a roof over our head and food in our stomach’s. Growing up we might not have had everything we wanted, but she made damn sure we had what we needed. Even now if times are tough I know I can go to my momma and she will try to help me out the best way she knows how.
Now that I am a grown woman I have realized just how many of my values and ethics I received from my momma. My husband tells me all the time, as well as his family, how strong a work ethic I have, I worked while I went to school, the majority of the time full-time. Each time I was pregnant I worked up until the baby was born and went right back to work after my maternity leave was up. I did this because that is what my momma taught me to do. I remember when my brother was born, momma was in labor and still delivered papers (her second job) before she went on and went to the hospital. Another thing that James admires about me is my sense of loyalty. This too came from momma. She sticks with things even if she knows it is a losing battle, and never gives in. I have seen it takes a lot for her to finally give up on you. She has been married for 36 years, been working at the same job for about 15 years or more. I am sure at times she has wanted to walk away from both of them but she keeps on at it. She keeps in contact with family members calling at least once every week or so. And not matter how old she is she still respects her mother, something that sometimes seems to be a lost art.

She has passed on to me a love of Elvis, boxer bulldogs, and sweet tea. She never pretends to be anything she isn’t, and never has proclaimed to be anything but Brenda Crawford, wife, mother and now grandmother. If you have done anything she doesn’t’ agree with, so be it, it is your life and you are the one who has to live it. She is a pretty laid back lady, but mess with her kids or grand kids and you can see a fire in her eyes.

Although she has to work tomorrow, I plan on going by when she gets off, Zaynah has picked out a small token for her, it is not much but nothing in the world could mean as much to her as she means to her kids and grand kids.

We all love you! Happy Mothers Day!

Strawberry Pickin"

Last weekend we went to Calhoun farms to pick some strawberries. After strawberry pickin’ we also enjoyed some homemade strawberry ice cream which was good, not as good as Calhoun’s thought it was since it was the most expensive ice cream I have ever eaten!

Here are some pictures I was able to get. Zaynah was more interested in the playground then the actually strawberries as you can see!

My Momma has stolen my dog!

Jake sitting in Grandma’s chair until she gets up.

I have sad news to report. Since my mother has been in my home it seems as if she has been on a secret mission to steal my dog from me! Yes it is true. I did not realize this until she left for her trip to Virginia, then it all started to come together. Jake was very sad acting. Then the behavioral problems started. If you remember Jake was fully house trained and obedience trained before he came to our home, he seemed to forget all that when “Grandma” left him! As soon as she came home he was back to his ole self, I mean his ole self since “Grandma” came to live with us, sitting at her feet, barking at night when he was crated, not listening to his “momma” anymore, that ole self. James has now informed me that when Momma gets ready to leave she is taking Jake with her, Mission Accomplished!

Update on Momma

Since Momma has been back from Virginia she has had a couple of doctors appointments. Thursday I took her to Dr. March to get a hearing exam. Dr. March told us what we all knew, momma can’t hear! The doctor was nice enough though to go right ahead and fill out the paperwork I needed her to fill out for the Georgia Lighthouse foundation to see if they can assist momma in obtaining a hearing aid.

Friday I took momma to Dr. Ring for a check up from the blood work and x-rays she did before her trip. He again told us what we already knew, her knees are full of arthritis, her right knee more so then her left. Her sugar was also high in her blood work, so that means no more Pepsi for her! Everything else looked good though. Also all this time momma had been telling us she was not on a “special” diet. I asked the doctor and he said, “she is a diabetic, so that means no rice, potatoes, bread, sugar, you know”. Yeah I know!

After we got into the car I told momma that we were going to start weight watchers together. We both started yesterday, or should I say the three of us started yesterday, since Momma forced Lynn into the group too!

Wish us Luck!

Momma’s Trip to Virginia

Blue Ridge Mountains Pictures, Images and Photos

Just got off the phone with momma, she is having a great time in Virginia. I am glad she has had this experience and got to visit a place she has never visited before. She told me that she was able to get out of the house today and take a drive through the Blue Ridge mountains.

I am glad she is having a wonderful time, she deserves the break after a tough year.

Momma’s Doctor Visit

Momma went to the doctor today for a check-up. She actually had to go to the walk in clinic last week because of a cold, that turned out to be bronchitis. She didn’t want to go but James came home at lunch after I called him, and forced her to go!

Today she basically went to get her prescriptions refilled, and have her blood pressure checked. The doctor said her blood pressure and “sugar” looked good! Since she has moved in with us, James has made her switch to Pepsi One and making sure she takes her meds everyday, in an effort to help control her diabetes. it looks like it might be working.

She is going to have some blood work and an X ray done tomorrow and has another checkup next month.

Life getting back to normal

Sorry it has been a minute since I posted. Momma and Lynn got moved in last Sunday. They are still getting things where they need to be and I believe tomorrow will be the last day they have to get some things out of their old place.

Around our house, we finally got the furniture that Momma brought with her set up, the computers set up where they were going to be (James bought himself a new computer for Christmas and we set up the older one in the Den for me and the kids to use). Today I brought all the plants over from mommas old place and I am going to find a place to set them up as well since we are still having cold weather here and they can not go out on the porch.

Other then that things are going well here. Zaynah is spending a lot of time with Grandma, because Grandma will let her watch sponge bob all she wants on her TV! Yesterday I went into momma’s room and she was sitting in her chair reading a book and Zaynah was sitting on the floor playing barbies.

I knew things would work out once we got it all together!
