My Valentines Present

Here are some pictures I took with my new valentines present! I LOVE it!

What makes a good father?

I found this old blog I had written quite a few years ago, Zaynah must have  still been in diapers! Anyways I thought I would re-post it here since it still rings true today. Just don’t tell James because he doesn’t like it when I get all mushy on him!

When you think about it what really makes a good father? How does a man learn how to become one? Is it taught to him by his father, if he has a bad father is he pre-destined to be a bad father to his children as well? There is so much negative press given to those fathers who don’t do right, those who neglect to pay their child support or just leave the mother hanging to raise a child by themselves. But hardly any attention is given to those fathers that do stick around, those who raise the kids by themselves or just make sure everything is taken care of. One of the reasons I love my husband so much is that he is a great father, and if you knew him and a little of his personal history you would wonder, how did this come about? While I consider my self a good mother, I had a great role model; my mom went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food in out stomach even if it meant having to work two jobs and not spending quality time with her kids. I really didn’t appreciate the sacrifice she made until I became a mother myself. My husband on the other hand was not as fortunate to have a good father role model although he has two men to sit in the father role in his life. Without going to deep into it lets just say one rather chooses another lifestyle over a life with his kids, and the other was emotional distance to say the least. But James has taken on the role of father head on. He is the disciplinary in our home, (I am a little chicken about that), and is a great role model in showing the kids how things are to be done, he great at telling the to suck it up and move on when they fall or don’t do as well as they want ( this is a very valuable life lesson in itself), he shows the kids how a man should treat a woman, and shows Shayla (and one day Zaynah) how they should expect to be treated when they grow up. James is not above washes dishes or changing diapers or even cooking, in fact I think he rather cook then eat what I come up with sometimes! He spends time with the kids, not afraid to be left alone with them, takes them fishing and shares his interest and hobbies with them. The kids are lucky to have him and so am I. So where did this come from? Did he learn it, from what I see as role models around him no? Was it inherited, don’t think so. I believe it is just a true test to the type of man my husband is. When he sets his mind to something he goes at it with all he’s got. He has an incredible ability to learn for others mistakes and decide his kids deserve better than what he had for a father growing up. Shayla, Tai, Zaynah and I love and adore him, and our world is a better place because of him.

School Carnival

School Carnival Pictures, Images and Photos

Last night I took the kids to Tai’s school carnival. It was a nice little affair that got us out of the house for a bit spending some quality time together.

While the event itself was not much to write home about, it was nice to see my kids in their “own” environment so to speak. Tai quickly hooked up with two of his friends from class, while Shayla talked to her old teachers and let them know how life has been treating her over at the middle school.

I was very proud of myself as this was the first event I have ever taken the kids to where I let Shayla and Tai be Shayla and Tai and go off on their own without me standing right behind them. I spent the time at the carnival mostly with Zaynah and standing in line to get into the “bouncy house”.

All in all though the kids had a great time and we all have some nice memories!

Back From Mississippi

Playground for Parents title only Pictures, Images and Photos

Well James and I have made it home and the kids have made it safely to Dallas. They are super excited! I never have seen kids so excited to be going away from home! The house is eeirly quite today. I am sure I will be used to it in a few days, but as of right now, it is QUITE! Only the birds and dogs are making noise!

As quite as the house is though I have to admit it was nice to lay down last night and not have to worry about bath times, making sure Zaynah is in bed and not up sneaking around, and this morning I slept and was not awaken by tapping on my door. So I guess this does have it up side! And I will probarly be able to get to work on time tomorrow! Yaaay!

On their way to Dallas!

Well the kiddies are really excited, they are packing up getting ready to head to Dallas, Texas to visit with their Aunt Jo Lena and cousin Tiny. Tomorrow we are driving to Jackson, Mississippi to meet up with Jo Lena and Tiny. The kids will be gone two weeks.

This is the longest, distance and time wise they will be away from home. I am already missing them.

End of the School Year

end school zone Pictures, Images and Photos

Friday was the kids last day of school. Next year both Shayla and Tai will be going to new schools. Shayla moves on up to Middle School and Tai moves to Shayla old stepping grounds of Southwestern.

Thursday we went to both of the kids awards/graduation ceremonies. James and I had to split the duties since they were held at the same time! I went to Tai’s and James went to Shayla’s (since she is a daddy’s girl).

Tai received the following awards: Honors, Perfect Attendance, 50 point AR club and the highest AR points for his class!

Shayla received Honor roll and a trophy for earning 126 AR points this year.

I am extremely proud of both of my kids. At times I take for granted just how smart they are, but when I was sitting at the awards ceremony I realized a lot of the students did not receive any sort or special recognition. Both Shayla and Tai have worked hard to earn the achievements they have this year, and for that their Daddy and I are so proud!

Spring has arrived!

It was a beautiful spring day yesterday and the girls decided to get out and decorate our walk way! As you can see they have already got out the sundresses and flip flops!

Strawberry Pickin"

Last weekend we went to Calhoun farms to pick some strawberries. After strawberry pickin’ we also enjoyed some homemade strawberry ice cream which was good, not as good as Calhoun’s thought it was since it was the most expensive ice cream I have ever eaten!

Here are some pictures I was able to get. Zaynah was more interested in the playground then the actually strawberries as you can see!

Easter Sunday

Here are some pics of the kids from Easter. They all did a excellent job in the Easter program! I was so very proud!

Fun at MeeMaws!

Saturday I took Momma to Grandma’s house to spend a few days with her before she (Momma)hopped on a plane to Virginia to spend a few days. While we were there the kids had a blast on Lindseys tramplonie! I wished these pics I am sharing could show everyone how BLACK they were when they got off! As soon as we got home they all jumped in the tub to clean up! It was worth it though…I think that is the most fun the kids have had in awhile! They are looking forward to the next couple weeks passing by, not only to see Grandma again, but to jump on the tramploine!
